2015 Another Success
The weather cooperated and another great year at Myrtle is over.
Nothing too eventful... No golf carts were lost. No golfers were left asleep at the bag drop.
We'll start the planning process for 2016.
CK Allen was crowned the 2015 (chip and putt) Champion.

Pairings 2015
In case you forgot or John, the new guy, didn't know, every day is a captain's choice. As
we are on vacation, the last thing any of us needs is to get upset about
our golf game. So, several years ago we shifted to a captain's choice
format and added a little friendly competition. I think it originally
started when Charlie was looking for the cart girl at 8 AM for shots of
Jack because his game had gone south.
Here are the pairings for this year. As is always the case, there may be someone you don't play with, and you won't play with anyone more than once.
Using a simple spreadsheet here is the "rotation". Sixteen spots A-P that rotate.
This year's "draft" took place at the Pete Dye River Course in the New River Valley. Names were drawn at random to fill spots A-P. However, with the change in players, I wanted to make sure that John played with his "sponsor" so I switched days 1 and 3 so he and D. Clemson would play together. Or so he wouldn't be subjected to Kyle on Day 1.....
Other than that the draw was purely random.
If we have a threesome any day, that group will go off first.

2015 Rules and General Info.
OK, lots of info. in this update. I will release the pairings next week.
Rule Changes -
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, not necessarily. We WILL continue to play all rounds as captain's choice. Last year there were two new "experimental" rules implemented. One of which we will keep.
Once again, as is done in many captain's choice tourneys, this year we will require each team to use at least two (2) tee shots from each member of the team, regardless of whether it is a 4- or 3-man team. This will be tee shots on any hole, regardless of whether it is a par 3, 4, or 5.
In the event that there are only three team members, the three players will alternate taking the 4th shot.
Wacky Hat/Outfit Day -
With mixed success we have done a wacky hat/outfit day the past couple of years. Should you choose to participate, we will do this on day three at Legends-Heathland. Past examples include Kyle dressed as Ricky Fowler, Chris dressed as the "you can't drink all day if you don't start early" guy. Of course, I was proud to declare myself the winner the first year with my stupid hat with ND on it.
Basic Information -
We are three weeks out. Be reminded that with our golf package, BREAKFAST AND LUNCH are included at all four courses this year. We also get a couple of free beers at the clubhouse those days as well.
The way this works, once we check in at the course with the golf vouchers, meal and drink vouchers will be given to us. I have the golf vouchers.
Dinner on Saturday and Sunday will be at the condos. Saturday will be the traditional Spaghetti fest featuring Momma Haswell's famous sauce. This year, instead of Jambalaya on Sunday (there were multiple people with gastrointestinal aversions to that) I will be preparing chili.
On Friday we need to meet at The Legends clubhouse. I will check in at the pro shop to get both the golf and meal vouchers, so we can get our lunch that day prior to playing golf at the Parkland course.
Our first tee time at Parkland on Friday is 1:56 and we'll need to group up before hand for pairings, etc. Hopefully all will arrive in time for lunch.
There are eight showing up on Thursday to check in. For those coming down on Friday, you/we can check in at Legends condos after the first round.
After each round, I will distribute the prize money for the day. The winning team receives $160 each day. In the event of a tie, like day one in 2012, we will declare a definitive winner based on a tie-breaker (going with the lowest score on the #1 handicap hole and if still tied, moving to #2 handicap, the #3 until a winner is determined). If there is a tie and we cannot complete the round due to weather, the money will be split (as happened a few years ago at Heathland).
After conversation with a few people, we will go with this rooming list. Of course, if CK isn't able to make it, we can change it up on Friday.
1 - T Wilson, K. Buhrdorf, C. Mathers, K Mathers
2 - R Haswell, C Higgins, D Denston, M. Tadyk
3 - D Lane, CK Allen, B. Swarthout, M. Neebe
4 - T Haswell, M Thompson, D Clemson, J. Healy
I will announce pairings (basically random) in a few days.
Rules for the course -
We do have to get to courses early. While we have meals before each round we still need to be ready to go early. It is suggested that we arrive ready, no later than 20 minutes before the first tee time. It does take time to unload cars, get balls, tees, etc. together, load up carts and get out to the tees, etc. What you do with the extra few minutes (practice putting, go to the range, go to the john, check out the pro shop or try to get a preview of the cart girls) is up to you. I will have directions to courses to the one offsite course (Heritage) for people and I'm sure most will have GPS in their cars.
No metal spikes allowed. I know most people have gotten rid of metal spikes by now, but just in case.....................
No jeans allowed.
Collared shirts are required. No one has trouble with mock turtles, just make sure there are no t-shirts.
Condos do have washers/dryers, so don't hesitate to pack light and do laundry there.
Like most of Myrtle Beach courses, the courses this year DO NOT allow coolers. So, be subtle if you take beer on the course. Some have coolers in bags which seem to be OK. Of course, you can buy beverages at the course. Telling the starter that the cooler doesn't have beer, but contains your insulin might work at some public course in Virginia, but the starters in MB will ask to look in the cooler.
Remember to bring any medication you need. That includes aspirin, Pepto or anything else for your stomach or head.

Day 3 - Legends Heathland
Day three in 2015 brings us back to home base. Heathland was the first of the on-site Legend's courses and designed by Tom Doak. Breakfast and lunch is provided at the Legends.
Heathland is probably the most open of the courses we will play, so it should make us feel better about our games. When it opened, the Heathland course was named one of the Top 10 New Resort Courses in the World.
Check this review of Heathland - Legends. Enjoy the read and think warm weather.
For a video look at the courses at the Legends complex, see the link below.

Day 2 - Heading South to Heritage
Ranked among the "50 Best Public Courses in America" by Golf Digest, the Par 71 Heritage Club golf course is a world of rolling fairways with generous landing areas, large and undulating greens that roll fast and true. At one with nature the layout is a sea of wildflowers and flowering shrubs punctuated with lush stands of crepe myrtle, camellias and azaleas. The course is as easy on the eye as it is enjoyable to play.
Check out this article on the Heritage Club and this on Five Things You Need to Know about Heritage. Finally, here is a video tour to whet your appetite.

New Guy 2015
If you haven't heard, Scott Wheeler won't be able to be with us this year due to a personal scheduling conflict. David Clemson, who was Scott's "sponsor" quickly filled out the roster spot with a fellow ATF colleague and provided the following bio.
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
John
Healey will be joining the group for the 2015 Myrtle Beach
extravaganza. John resides in Charlottesville, VA with his wife and
15-year-old son. Growing up in Indiana,
John attended the University of Indianapolis under a baseball
scholarship and then attended the University of Richmond for Graduate
School and served as a baseball coach.
While he lives in
Charlottesville, John isn’t fully committed to being a UVa fan so
please remove the prejudice from your mind. We could tell you his
current profession but…well, you will be able to figure that out.
Clemson prepares the financial work for his investigations so we can
leave it at that for now.
What
does matter and certainly not in question is Johns’ passion for golf!
Whenever Clemson shows up to the Charlottesville office, better believe
the office television
is tuned to the Golf Channel. The man-cave in the basement of his
house? Golf theme of course. Not sure which John enjoys more - golf or
spirits. One thing for sure, he gives his best when it comes to both.
Please help me in welcoming John to the group. He is very excited and very much looking forward to the trip this year.
Contributed by third-year participant David Clemson.

Day 1 - Legends Parkland
Day 1, Friday has us on site at the Legends at the Parkland Course. We will meet at the clubhouse prior to our round for the included lunch.
Parkland was the third course built at the Legend's complex. In a word, it is a Parkland-style course. Parkland utilizes the natural terrain with contoured, tree-lined fairways, vast natural areas, deep-faced bunkers and massive, multi-level greens.
