2012 Dates Set
Our dates are set for June 1-5, 2012. This year, due to popular demand, we will expand to 16. More details on the Newbies (or Neebe's as the case may be) soon. Have a package in the works to stay in the area of Legend's but to play some new courses this year. Details to be e-mailed in a day or two. If you need a hint, it could be a "magical" group of courses.

Tee Sheet
Here are the pairings for this year. As is always the case, there may be someone you don't play with, but you will not play with anyone more than twice. That is about as good a job as the program can do. It is random.

Information and Some Basic Rules
Basic Information -
Be reminded that with our golf package this year, lunch is included Friday, Saturday and Monday. We also get two free draft beers at the clubhouse that day. Breakfast is also included Saturday at Legend's and Monday at Heritage if anyone desires. I doubt this will apply at Oyster Bay since it is on rain checks from last year.
The way this works, once we check in at the course, meal and drink vouchers will be given to us. I have the golf vouchers. The New River Valley crew plans on arriving Friday at the Legends around noon. I will check in at the pro shop upon arrival to get the vouchers, so we can get our lunch that day prior to playing golf.
After each round, I will distribute the prize money for the day. We can discuss, but I suggest we meet at the clubhouse for our free beer and do it there.
For meals on Saturday and Sunday, we will follow the tradition of spaghetti and jambalaya respectively.
Rules for the course -
Our first tee time on Friday is 1:48 and we'll need to group up before hand for pairings, etc. Hopefully all will arrive in time for lunch. Regardless of comments from Chris or David, we do have to get to courses early. It is suggested that we arrive no later than 20 minutes before the first tee time. I tend to go by the half hour rule. It does take time to unload cars, get balls, tees, etc. together, load up carts and get out to the tees, etc. What you do with the extra few minutes (practice putting, go to the range, go to the john, check out the pro shop or try to get a preview of the cart girls) is up to you. Of course for the days we eat breakfast at the course we will need to get there earlier if you/we choose to eat. I will have directions to courses for people and I'm sure some will have GPS in their cars. Of course the first two days are in sight of the condo, so with the exception of air delays or traffic problems, we should be OK (of course those could never happen).
No metal spikes allowed. I know most people have gotten rid of metal spikes by now, but just in case.
No jeans allowed.
Collared shirts are required. No one has trouble with a mock turtle, just make sure there are no t-shirts.
Remember that it is an ABC violation to take your own coolers on courses. Be subtle if you take beer on the course. Some have coolers in bags which seem to be OK. Bring ice cubes or blue ice packs you can freeze the night before your round so you can pack beer in your bag. Of course, you can buy beverages at the course. Telling the starter that the cooler doesn't have beer, but contains your insulin might work at some public course in Virginia, but the starters in MB will ask to look in the cooler.
Remember to bring allergy medicine and any other medication you need. That includes aspirin, Pepto or anything else for your stomach or head.
Pool and Common Sense Rules -
Remember to take sun screen to the pool.
No glass bottles allowed at the pool.
Be careful who you ask to the hot tub. If you get shot down, expect grief from everyone at the pool.
This one goes back a few years, but no Greyhounds with Gas. They will get after you!
If you do go to a gentlemen's club, don't spend more money that night than you do for golf and lodging.

Heritage - One of America's Best
Ranked among the "50 Best Public Courses in America" by Golf Digest, the Par 71 Heritage Club golf course is a world of rolling fairways with generous landing areas, large and undulating greens that roll fast and true. At one with nature the layout is a sea of wildflowers and flowering shrubs punctuated with lush stands of crepe myrtle, camellias and azaleas. The course is as easy on the eye as it is enjoyable to play.
Check out this article on the Heritage Club and here is a video tour to whet your appetite.

Oyster Bay - Course #3 This Year
The countdown clock is still ticking and we are getting close my friends.
Oyster Bay will be our third course of the weekend and is consistently listed as one of the top layouts at the beach since opening in 1983 as the "Best New Resort Course" in the country by Golf Digest. Water views, gators, other wildlife and some of the toughest greens on the strand should make this a memorable round. Last year we had disappointing conditions, but I was able to get rain checks for this year based on that fact. That saved us some coin this year and hopefully we will be impressed by more than the layout this year.
Make sure to check out the video tour.
This course will be a bit of a drive for us, but hopefully will be well worth the trip.

Legend's Parkland - Course #2
Parkland was the third course built at the Legend's complex. In a word, it is a Parkland-style course. Parkland utilizes the natural terrain with contoured, tree-lined fairways, vast natural areas, deep-faced bunkers and massive, multi-level greens.
The Myrtle Beach Sun News offers this review of the Parkland Course.

A Few Photos from Last Year
The group arrives on day one, while Chris and Randy wander aimlessly around Atlanta Hartsfield Airport.

Heathland - Course #1 for 2011
As we approach a mere three months until our first tee time, here is a preview of our first course for 2011. This is our one repeat course from last year. Heathland was the first of the on-site Legend's courses. After drives or flights in, we will meet at the Legend's clubhouse for our free lunch and then see what the golf gods have in store for us. Heathland is probably the most open of the courses we will play, so it should make us feel better about our games on that first day.
World Golf posted this review of Heathland - Heathland - Legends. Enjoy the read and think warm weather.

OK. So Who is the New Guy?
As we are now inside four months until our next journey to Myrtle, I feel I had better let you know about the new guy joining us this year.
Greg Dunn is a Hokie. Nuff said? OK, I'll continue. "G" lived in the same apartment complex as Kevin B while at Tech. Greg, Kevin and I along with one of our other tailgating buddies were four of about 1,000 people who actually witnessed live perhaps the worst loss (and the coldest game) in VT football history - VMI 6, VT 0.
Greg, who was once mistaken for Andre Agassi in New Orleans, actually is a tennis player and has traveled with Kevin, Brent, Randy and others to various VT bowls and other sporting events. Kevin and I haven't played golf with him since our trip to East Carolina for football a few years ago. That story will be told during the trip.
He has worked in sales most of his professional life, working in radio advertising and for the past several years with cable advertising. He was with Adelphia before that ship sunk and currently works for Comcast or Cox or whoever they are this year. For a time he also managed a restaurant/nightclub in Roanoke. From his time there I have developed a hatred for the stupid/antiquated Virginia ABC laws.
He is a trivia wizard. Trust me he will stump you with some obscure references to the ABA or the Spurs or some other off the wall stuff while down there. However, he won't be bragging about his Super Bowl champion Saints.
