Golf Information -
We
WILL continue
to play all rounds as captain's choice. For the courses on site at
Legends, we will play from GREEN TEES. All rounds are again, morning rounds.
Each player will continue to get one RED
TEE shot per day.
Once
again, as is done in many captain's choice tourneys, this
year we will require each team to use at least two (2) tee shots from
each member of the team, regardless of whether it is a 4- or 3-man
team. This will be tee shots on any hole, regardless of whether it is a
par 3, 4, or 5. Red tee shots can count in required tee shots during the round.
Three-Man Teams
It appears that we will be without Mr. Dickerson this year due to him developing pneumonia.
Therefore
on days where there are only three team members, the three players will
alternate taking the groups 4th shot.
Players will alternate tee shots with
Player 1 having extra tee shots on holes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, and 16.
Player 2 will get extra tee shots on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, and 17.
Player 3 will get extra tee shots on holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18.
Players will rotate additional extra shots on the hole. You are not required to take an extra shot. However, if you do not take the extra shot, you forfeit that shot and the next person takes the next extra shot.
Basic Information -
This
year, once again, home base will be LEGENDS RESORT.
Golf - Friday 8:28 AM at Parkland
Sat. 8:28 AM at Heathland
Sun. 8:58 AM at Moorland
Mon. 8:28 AM at Heathland
Be reminded that with our golf
package, breakfast and lunch is included on site each day. We typically also
get a couple of
free beers at the clubhouse those days as well. With Covid-19, Legends has been doing meals as take out, but Myrtle is now allowing inside dining with restrictions. We'll play this by ear.
Every round is on site this year, so we will meet up for breakfast and finish in time to head to the bag drop 20-25 minutes before tee times.. Who knows, with Covid causing most packages to be canceled, we may get off early.
After
each round, I will distribute the prize money for the day. The
each member of the winning team receives $40 for the round. In the event of a tie, like has happened in the past, we
will declare a definitive winner based on a tie-breaker (going with the
lowest score on the #1 handicap hole and if still tied, moving to #2
handicap, the #3 until a winner is determined). If there is a tie and we cannot complete the round due to
weather, the money will be split.
As we did last year, the members of the team that finishes in 4th place for the day is required to tee off the next day with pink Hello Kitty golf balls.
Here is our rooming list for this year (as of now).
1 - T Wilson, S. Dickerson (although he is doubtful), T. Haswell, M. Thompson
2 - R Haswell, C Higgins, D Denston,M. Tadych
3 - D Lane, B. Swarthout, CK Allen, M. Neebe
4 - K. Buhrdorf, K. Burhdorf, K. Mathers, R. Young
Rules for the course -
We
do have to get to courses early. While breakfast is included at the clubhouse of the course we play each day, it
imperative to pay attention to time. It is suggested that we arrive,
at the course, no
later than 20 minutes before the first tee time. It does take time
to unload cars, get balls, tees,
etc. together, load up carts and get out to the tees, etc. What you
do with the extra few minutes (practice putting, go to the range, go
to the john, check out the pro shop or try to get a preview of the
cart girls) is up to you.
Collared shirts are required. No one has trouble with mock turtles, just make sure there are no t-shirts.
Condos do have washers/dryers, so don't hesitate to pack light and do laundry there.
Like most of Myrtle Beach courses, the courses this year DO NOT allow coolers. Of course whatever you can put IN your bag........

Who the Hell is this Riley Character?
Joining the Myrtle Beach Tour in 2020 will be Riley
Young. Riley was born in Riverside,
California but moved to Christiansburg Virginia early in life. Riley is a
2012 graduate of Christiansburg High School.
He attended Virginia Tech where he studied Packing Systems and Design.
Prior to the
Covid-19 pandemic, he was working for GoPuff in Blacksburg “Delivering Life’s Essentials Faster”. Terry will be happy
to know that Riley is a diehard Cowboys fan.
He loves the Pokes so much he makes a yearly pilgrimage to JerryWorld to
watch the Boys. He is also a diehard
Lakers fan as well.
When Riley is not
working or playing golf he enjoys Virginia Tech football and basketball. Riley is an avid golfer and is a regular at
The Hill in Blacksburg for their Monday evening tournaments. Over the last few years Riley has been a
regular participant to the Saturday beer, wings and golf outings with a number
of the MB Tour members.
Riley’s path to
the MB Tour actually began a lot earlier than the last few years. Twenty years ago Riley and Kris Buhrdorf were
teammates on the Grizzlies. Not the
Memphis Grizzlies but the Christiansburg Peewee Basketball League
Grizzlies. The team was coached by original
MB Tour members Kevin Buhrdorf and Tom Wilson.
The work ethic and mental toughness Tom and Kevin taught him back in
2000 on the hardwood will suit him well playing the Legends Links.
Riley also played #1 on the Christiansburg HS tennis team, so if he brings his racket, don't think you will be playing some patsy.
Please join us in welcoming Riley to the
Myrtle Beach Tour!!

Meet Stevie D
As we get closer to our trip to Myrtle, let me introduce you to one of our two new guys this year.
Stevie Dickerson is a native of Pearisburg, VA though he has lived in Blacksburg for about 25 years. He has been a regular on Chicken Hill for tailgates and traveled to bowl games with the crew since the early 90's. We've been trying to get him to Myrtle for a number of years and we finally have succeeded.
For those that remember the old Marriott in Blacksburg, Stevie was a regular for many years when it was the disco capital of SW Virginia. So much so, when Stevie got married, the place closed down.
Marriage also ruined the best golfer in his family. His wife Tina could out drive any of us and the birth of their first daughter, Ashley, ended any hopes of Kevin and Tom of winning the Hokie Club captain's choice tournament. Comparing Stevie and Tina off the tee. When they played golf, if Tina wasn't playing from the white tees, it went like this.... Stevie tees off. They drive to the red tees. Stevie walks back 10 yards and hits his second shot. Then Tina tees off.
Stevie works at Celanese in Pearisburg. He and Tina have a second daughter, Sierra, who started college this year. Their daughter Ashley has a year or so left at Radford University.
Join us in welcoming Stevie, and we will introduce you to our other newbie, Riley Young soon.

GOLF PACKAGE 2020
OK gentlemen. Our 2020 package is set. 5 nights/4 rounds.
Total cost of the package is $535. Just FYI, I asked for a comparable package at the same time for Ocean City, MD. That package comes in around $765.
Be reminded that your fee includes not only the golf package, but also your $10 per round bet for each day. All "competition" rounds are captain's choice.
For those who have only paid the $100 deposit, please get me your checks or Paypal by April 1.
This year, we return to playing a Legends package and staying at Legends Resort. We will play the three courses at the Legends, playing Heathland twice. We never have to leave the "campus" for golf.
This year's package includes BREAKFAST, LUNCH and 2 BEERS each golf day at the Legends clubhouse.
We can arrive starting the afternoon of Thursday, May 28 with a departure on Tuesday morning. For those who feel the call of home early, this gives those folks the opportunity to depart Monday after golf without having to switch condos around based on departure of the party poopers.
All condos are two bedroom/two bath units.
